Dell PowerProtect DD Management Center (DDMC) 7.9 Installation and Administration Guide

Smart Scale port configuration

Ensure that ports for the DD Namespace Redirection Service (DDNRS) and the DD Namespace VM (DDNVM) are correctly configured.

DDNRS ports

DD Boost clients use port 2053 to connect to the DDNRS. If required, you can configure a different port for this service.

When a DD Boost client connects to the DDNVM, the portmapper provides the port number for the DDNRS. The DDNRS registers the port with the portmapper on the DDNVM. The DD Boost clients use the port that is returned by the portmapper to connect to the DDNRS.

Applications must open the DDNRS port. If the default port is used, port 2053 must be allowed access from the firewall by the applications.

If you change the default port number, the new port is registered with the portmapper as the DDNRS port.

Table 1. Configurable ports for DDNRS
Server Port
DDNRS 2053 (default)
DDR 2049

If port 2049 is preferred, applications can choose to use port 2049.

Changing the port from the default is disruptive. This action is best accomplished when setting up Smart Scale (otherwise, you must stop backups to configure the port).

There is no change in the DD Boost port when connecting to the DDR server. The default DD Boost port on the DDR is 2049.

DDNVM ports

The DDNVM uses the following ports by default:

Table 2. Default ports for DDNVM
Port Protocol Service Notes
10001 TCP DD Namespace Redirection Service Agent Uses:
  • Certificate-based trusted channel.
  • DDMC-CA-issued certificate.
  • TLSv1.2.
10002 TCP Pre-shared key for SSL/TLS handshake Uses:
  • Pre-shared secret with DDMC.
  • Secret secured on both DDMC and DDNVM.
  • TLSv1.2.
10003 TCP SSH Daemon Uses SSH prive key stored only on DDMC.
10004 TCP DD Namespace Redirection DB Manager Uses:
  • Certificate-based trusted channel.
  • DDMC-CA-issued certificate.
  • TLSv1.2.
2053 TCP DD Namespace Redirection Service Mobile storage unit (MSU) access by DD Boost clients.
