Installing the system board

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

NOTE:Replacing the system board removes any changes that you have made to the BIOS using the BIOS setup program. Make the appropriate changes again after you replace the system board.

Steps

  1. NOTE:Place the system board on a clean and flat surface.
    Replace the ethernet and audio board, USB board, and fan and heat-sink assembly.
  2. Turn the system board over.
    CAUTION:Before replacing the system board, ensure that the power button cable is routed below the USB board. If the power button cable is not routed and connected properly, the computer will not power on.
  3. Align the screw holes on the system board with the screw holes on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
    NOTE:Align the system board with the positioning pins on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
    NOTE:Align the heat sink to the top edge of the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  4. Replace the five (M2x4) screws that secure the system board to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
    NOTE:Move in clock-wise direction to connect the cables to the system board.
  5. Align the screw holes on the Type-C bracket with the screw holes on the system board.
  6. Replace the two (M2x4) screws that secure the Type-C bracket to the system board.
  7. Open the latch and connect the display cable to the system board.
  8. Adhere the tape that secures the display cable to the system board.
  9. Open the latch and connect the power-adapter port cable to the system board.
  10. Replace the two (M2x2) screws that secure the left fan to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  11. Connect the speaker cable to the system board.
  12. With both hands, use your fingertips to push the left-fan cable into its connector on the system board.
    CAUTION:Connecting the cable with the incorrect side facing upwards will cause damage to the connector and the system board. Ensure that the white dot on the cable is facing upwards before connecting the cable.

  13. Open the latch and connect the keyboard cable to the system board.
  14. Open the latch and connect the keyboard-backlight cable to the system board.
  15. Open the latch and connect the touchpad cable to the system board.
  16. With both hands, use your fingertips to push the right-fan cable into its connector on the system board.
    CAUTION:Connecting the cable with the incorrect side facing upwards will cause damage to the connector and the system board. Ensure that the white dot on the cable is facing upwards before connecting the cable.

  17. Open the latch and connect the power-button cable to the USB board.
  18. Route the display cable through the routing guides on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
