Install the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager agent on Windows in silent mode

Learn how to install the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager agent on Windows by using the appropriate command options for a silent installation.

NOTE: The Oracle RMAN agent installer for Windows does not support the --help option. Running the installer program with the --help initiates the installation process.

As the Administrator or a user from the Administrators group, run the installer program Oracle RMAN agent-19.17.0.0.exe. Run the installer with the appropriate command options in the directory where you extracted the downloaded software:

"Oracle RMAN agent-19.17.0.0.exe" -silent -log "<log_file_path>" [ProductInstallPath="<installation_path>"] [PPDMRegistrationEnabled={0|1}] [PPDMHostname="<hostname/IP>"] [PreferredHostAddress="<agent_hostname/IP>"] [PortNumber=<port_number>] [EnableFirewallRules={0|1}] [PrePostScriptEnabled={0|1}] [RetentionTime=<retention_time>] [SysdbaAccess={0|1}]

The following table describes the required silent installation command options.

NOTE:The silent installation command options are case-sensitive.
Table 1. Required silent installation command optionsTable of required silent installation command options
Command option Description
-silent Specifies a silent installation.
-log "<log_file_path>" Specifies the path where the log file is created or saved. The log file displays the status of the installation. For a silent installation, you must use the -log "<log_file_path>" option.

The following table describes the optional silent installation command options.

Table 2. Optional silent installation command optionsTable of optional silent installation command options
Command option Description
ProductInstallPath="<installation_path>" Specifies a path where the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager agent service must be installed. This option must be specified for an installation to a custom location. If you do not specify this option, the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager agent service are installed in the default location.
PPDMRegistrationEnabled={0|1} Integrates the Oracle RMAN agent with the PowerProtect Data Manager server during installation when you specify the value 1. The default value is 0.
NOTE:Installation of the PowerProtect agent requires the port that is specified with PortNumber (port 7000 by default) to be open bidirectionally. Ensure that you use the EnableFirewallRules=1 command option setting to open the Windows firewall. The PortNumber port or default port 7000 is required to enable communication between the Oracle RMAN agent and the PowerProtect Data Manager server.
PPDMHostname="<hostname/IP>" Specifies the hostname or IP address of the PowerProtect Data Manager server where the backup information is reported.
PreferredHostAddress="<agent_hostname/IP>" Specifies the address of the application agent host to be used for communication between the Microsoft application agent and PowerProtect Data Manager. The preferred host address can be an IPv4 address, an IPv6 address, or a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).
NOTE:If the preferred address is an FQDN, ensure that lookup is enabled in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI. If lookup is not enabled, the preferred address defaults to an IP address.
PortNumber=<port_number> Specifies the port on the Oracle host to be used for communication between the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager. The port number must be from the port ranges 7000–7009 and 7012–7020.
NOTE:If you do not specify a port number, the default port 7000 is used as the communications port. The agent service message bus uses the ports 7010 and 7011. The PortNumber option is not supported for a silent update. A silent update uses the previously configured port number and disregards any PortNumber option setting.
EnableFirewallRules={0|1} Specifies to configure the Windows firewall when you specify the value 1. The default value is 0. The Windows firewall enables the bidirectional inbound and outbound connections for the agent service over the port that is specified with PortNumber. The firewall enables the communication between the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager.
PrePostScriptEnabled={0|1} Specifies to enable the use of pre-scripts and post-scripts with Oracle centralized backups when you specify the value 1. The default value is 0. PowerProtect Data Manager supports the running of user-created scripts before and after a centralized backup on the Oracle host. Enable the use of pre-scripts and post-scripts with backups provides details about the use of pre-scripts and post-scripts.
RetentionTime=<retention_time> Specifies the retention time for existing Oracle backups. Specify the retention time value as the number of days. If you do not specify the retention time, then the default retention time of 30 days is used.
SysdbaAccess={0|1} Specifies to grant the SYSDBA access to the Oracle RMAN agent when you specify the value 1. If you specify the value 0 to deny the SYSDBA access, you are prompted at installation completion to configure the operating system user with SYSBACKUP privileges. These privileges enable the automatic discovery of Oracle databases.
