Install the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager agent on Windows in interactive mode

Learn how to install the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager agent on Windows by using the installation wizard for an interactive installation.

Steps

  1. As the Administrator or a user from the Administrators group, run the installer program Oracle RMAN agent-19.17.0.0.exe in the directory where you extracted the downloaded software.
    The installation wizard appears.
  2. On the Welcome Wizard page, select I agree to the license term and agreements, and then click Next.
  3. On the Change Install Location page, perform one of the following tasks, and then click Next:
NOTE: If the File System agent is installed first and then you install the Oracle RMAN agent with the wizard, the installation location is preset and cannot be changed.
    • To install the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager agent in the default directory, leave the installation location as is. The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\DPSAPPS\RMANAgent.

    • To specify a different installation location, perform the following steps:

      1. Click Change.
      2. In the dialog box that appears, specify the installation location.
      3. Click OK.
  4. On the Configure Installation Options page, specify the appropriate installation options to integrate the Oracle RMAN agent with PowerProtect Data Manager, and then click Next.
    1. Select PowerProtect Data Manager Registration at the top of the group box.

    2. In the Appliance hostname or IP address field, type the hostname or IP address of the PowerProtect Data Manager server.

If you specify a hostname or fully qualified domain name (FQDN) with an underscore (_) for the PowerProtect Data Manager server, then the communication is done by the system IP, if provided by the system on registration.

NOTE:Changing the PowerProtect Data Manager server hostname or IP address registers all the installed application agents to the new PowerProtect Data Manager server.
    3. To enable the PowerProtect Data Manager communications port that you select in the Port field, ensure that the Configure the Windows Firewall option is selected. This option is selected by default.

When the Configure the Windows Firewall option is enabled, the installation creates the Windows firewall rule that allows inbound and outbound connections for the agent service process. Installation of the Oracle RMAN agent requires a selected port on the Oracle server (selected from port ranges 7000 to 7009 and 7012 to 7020) and the port 8443 on PowerProtect Data Manager to be open bidirectionally. These ports enable communication between the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager.
    4. To select a preferred host address for communication, select Preferred application host address for communication and then an entry from the dropdown list.

The preferred host address can be an IPv4 address, an IPv6 address, or a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

NOTE:Selecting an FQDN ensures continued communication between PowerProtect Data Manager and the application agent host when the IP address changes. Using an FQDN is recommended for DHCP environments and other environments where static IP addresses can change. If the preferred address is an FQDN, ensure that lookup is enabled in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI. If lookup is not enabled, the preferred address defaults to an IP address.
    5. Select Port and specify the port number from the supported port ranges 7000 to 7009 and 7012 to 7020. The specified port is used for communication between the Oracle RMAN agent and PowerProtect Data Manager.

NOTE:If you do not specify a port number, the default port 7000 is used as the communications port. The agent service message bus uses the ports 7010 and 7011.
    6. Select Allow centralized scripting to enable the use of pre-scripts and post-scripts with Oracle centralized backups. PowerProtect Data Manager supports the running of user-created scripts before and after a centralized backup on the Oracle host. Enable the use of pre-scripts and post-scripts with backups provides details about the use of pre-scripts and post-scripts.
  5. On the Configure Additional Options page, specify the appropriate additional configuration settings, and then click Next.
    1. To set the retention time for existing Oracle backups, select Set the retention time for existing backups and specify the retention time value as the number of days. If you do not specify the retention time, then the default retention time of 30 days is used.
    2. Select the preferred setting for the option Allow SYSDBA access for Oracle RMAN agent :

      • Select Yes to grant the SYSDBA access to the Oracle RMAN agent.
      • Select No to deny the SYSDBA access to the Oracle RMAN agent.

If you select to deny the SYSDBA access, you are prompted at the installation completion to configure the operating system user with SYSBACKUP privileges. These privileges enable the automatic discovery of Oracle databases.

  6. If the Legacy RMAN Agents page appears, the Oracle host still has pre-19.16 Oracle RMAN agents installed. It is recommended to not use legacy Oracle RMAN agents for the backup of databases that the PowerProtect Data Manager protects.
  7. Click Install >.
  8. On the Complete the Setup page, click Finish.
