PowerProtect Data Manager 19.16 Storage Array User Guide

Restore data from a snapshot to the original location

A restore to the original location enables you to restore data from a snapshot backup that is created on a PowerStore storage array.

About this task

A snapshot is a point-in-time view of data stored on a volume or volume group. Using snapshots, you can protect your data locally and restore data to a previous state.

Steps

  1. Log in to the PowerProtect Data Manager user interface as a user with the Administrator role.
  2. From the left navigation pane, select Restore > Assets.
    The Restore window appears.
  3. Click the Block Volumes tab.
The Restore window displays a list of block volume assets (volumes and volume groups).
  4. Select the checkbox next to the asset that contains the backup, and then click Restore.
You can use the Search field or the filter in the Name column to locate a specific asset.
The Block Volumes Restore wizard opens on the Copy Selection page.
  5. Select the snapshot objectives from the associated protection policy.
The wizard displays a list of the available snapshot copies from which you can restore.
  6. Select an available copy, and then click Next.
The Block Volumes Restore wizard moves to the Location page.
  7. Select Restore to original, and then click Next.
NOTE:Restore to original overwrites the contents in the original volume or volume group with the restored copy.
  8. On the Summary page, verify the details, and then click Restore to start the restore.
  9. Go to the Jobs window to monitor the restore.
A restore job appears with a progress bar and start time. If a restore job for this asset is already in progress, PowerProtect Data Manager queues a new restore job.
