PowerProtect Data Manager 19.16 Storage Array User Guide

PowerProtect Data Manager overview

For the integration with Dell PowerStore, PowerProtect Data Manager provides centralized backup and restore operations to protect data on storage arrays.

PowerProtect Data Manager supports data protection of both block volumes and network-attached storage (NAS) devices on PowerStore storage arrays. This guide contains procedures for protecting block volumes. The PowerProtect Data Manager Network-Attached Storage User Guide describes how to configure and administer the PowerProtect Data Manager software to protect and recover the data on NAS appliances and shares.

For protection of data on PowerStore storage arrays, PowerProtect Data Manager provides the following features and benefits:

  • Centralized protection policies automatically manage snapshot, backup, and replication operations. You can schedule local snapshots and backups directly from PowerStore storage arrays to protection storage in all supported environments.
  • Manual backup, snapshot, and replication operations.
  • Centralized restore from a backup on protection storage through the primary or replica site. You can restore to the original location, to an alternate location on the same storage array, or to a different storage array.
  • Centralized restore of a local snapshot copy to the original location and the ability to refresh the data from a snapshot copy to a clone device.
  • Instant Access of a backup copy to a host or host group for the purposes of backup validation and to restore from the backup.
  • Support for multi-appliance PowerStore clusters.

The E-Lab Navigator provides compatibility information about PowerProtect Data Manager support for PowerStore.

The REST API provides additional operations. The PowerProtect Data Manager Public REST API documentation provides more information.
