PowerProtect Data Manager 19.16 Oracle RMAN User Guide

Parameters for self-service Oracle backups and restores

For a self-service Oracle backup or restore, you must set the required Oracle RMAN agent parameters in the backup or restore RMAN script. The BACKUP_HOST, RMAN_AGENT_HOME, and STORAGE_UNIT parameters are mandatory. You can set other optional parameters for specific operations.

To prepare for self-service backups and restores of Oracle databases, review the following information about the supported Oracle RMAN agent parameters.

NOTE:In the RMAN script, you must set the parameters by using the SBT_PARMS or ENV option in the ALLOCATE CHANNEL line.

BACKUP_HOST Mandatory.

Specifies the hostname of the DD  system or the DD Boost-over-Fibre Channel (DFC) service name.

  • Undefined (default).
  • Valid DD system hostname or DFC service name.
NOTE:The value can be a DFC service name if you must run the backup or restore over Fibre Channel.
DBUNIQUE_NAME Mandatory for a self-service backup in an Oracle Data Guard environment.

Specifies the Oracle DB_UNIQUE_NAME value of the Oracle database that is backed up.

You can obtain the DB_UNIQUE_NAME value by running the SQL query SELECT DB_UNIQUE_NAME FROM V$DATABASE.

A compressed restore uses less bandwidth by restoring the backed-up data in a compressed form from the DD system to the application host.
  • FALSE (default) = Perform an uncompressed restore.
  • TRUE = Perform a compressed restore.
RMAN_AGENT_HOME Mandatory.

Specifies the installation directory for the Oracle RMAN agent.

  • $HOME/opt/dpsapps/rmanagent (default).
  • Valid complete pathname of the Oracle RMAN agent installation directory.
NOTE:The specified directory pathname must not end with a slash (/).
STORAGE_UNIT Mandatory.

Specifies the name of a storage unit on the DD  server to use for the backup or restore operations with the Oracle RMAN agent.

  • Undefined (default).
  • Valid directory name of the storage unit on the DD system, without the /data/col1 prefix.
NOTE:The specified name is case-sensitive.
