PowerProtect Data Manager 19.14 Virtual Machine User Guide

Protecting virtual machines in a VMware Site Recovery Manager environment

The following considerations apply when protecting virtual machines in a VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) environment:

  • If the virtual machine has quiescing enabled in the VMware vSphere Replication (VR) application, PowerProtect Data Manager protection is unsupported.
  • If both the primary and secondary SRM vCenter servers are added as asset sources to PowerProtect Data Manager, PowerProtect Data Manager indicates that the same virtual machines exist in both.
NOTE:When protecting a virtual machine, ensure it is a virtual machine that is hosted on the primary vCenter server. Do not protect a placeholder virtual machine that is hosted on the secondary vCenter server.
  • Enabling of VMware's Site Recovery Manager (SRM) for virtual machines that are protected in PowerProtect Data Manager with TSDM is not supported. Ensure that you disable SRM protection for any virtual machines that use the TSDM protection mechanism, or manually configure any SRM-enabled virtual machines to use the VADP data mover instead.
NOTE:Array-based replication for SRM is also unsupported.
  • If a virtual machine has Auto-include new disks in replication disabled, you must reconfigure virtual machines for replication in the VMware UI after the following PowerProtect Data Manager operations:
    • File-level restore of a virtual machine that SRM or VR protects
    • Restore to Original or Restore VMDK to Original
    • Restore VMDK to Alternate on a virtual machine that has the target VM selected for VMDK restore and is configured with SRM or replication
