PowerProtect Data Manager 19.14 Virtual Machine User Guide

File level restore as a domain user

PowerProtect Data Manager supports using an Active Directory service account (domain user) to perform virtual machine file level restores. Using this service account, you can restore files belonging to any domain user in your environment from any virtual machine, if the platform-specific prerequisite steps have been performed on the target virtual machine.

NOTE:All the settings described in the following sections for both Linux and Windows must be completed on the target virtual machine before performing the restore. These settings assume that the VM Direct agent is not already installed on the target virtual machine, and that this virtual machine has network connectivity to the AD server that is required for authentication. Otherwise, the file level restore fails with a message indicating that the username or password is invalid.

When using an Active Directory service account, an increase in audit and security-related logs occurs on the target virtual machine for the file level restore. This increase in log messages occurs because the target virtual machine must authenticate with the user directory for each folder browse operation.
