Terminology

The following table provides definitions for some of the PowerStore terms that are used in this document.

Table 1. Terminology
Term Definition
Block volume A block-level storage device that can be created and mapped to a host using a protocol such as iSCSI or Fibre Channel. Block volumes include volumes and volume groups.
PowerStore Manager An HTML5 user interface used to manage PowerStore systems.
Storage array A data storage system for block-based storage, file-based storage, or object storage.
Snapshot A point-in-time view of data that is stored on a storage resource such as a volume or volume group.
Volume A volume is a single unit that represents a specific amount of storage.
Volume group A volume group is a logical container for a group of volumes. A volume group provides a single point of management for multiple storage resources that work together as a unit.
Cluster A PowerStore cluster combines multiple appliances into a single grouping that is managed as a single storage system.
