PowerProtect Data Manager 19.13 Network-Attached Storage User Guide

Configuring access zones with Isilon/PowerScale NFS or CIFS shares

Isilon/PowerScale does not recommend using multiple access zones with the same base path.

When creating access zones, it is recommended to use a unique base path for each access zone.

For example, consider the following access zones and base paths:

Figure 1. Access zones and base paths
Access zones and base paths

In this example, both access zones testzone and testzone2 use the same /ifs/testzone base path.

The NFS or CIFS shares created under the base path /ifs/testzone can be assigned to either testzone or testzone2. Which zone the shares are assigned to is based on the timing of API executions that cannot be accurately predicted. This unpredictability means that what PowerProtect Data Manager reports as testzone at one point in time could be referencing what it reported as testzone2 in the past.

You can prevent unpredictable behavior by ensuring that every access zone uses an Isilon/Powerscale NFS or CIFS share with a unique base path.
