PowerProtect Data Manager 19.10 Microsoft SQL Server User Guide

Troubleshooting restore failure of Microsoft SQL Server application-aware backup

The restore of a Microsoft SQL Server application-aware backup might fail with the following type of error message:

Unable to get DD serial number for host '###.###.###.###', error message The specified Data Domain password is invalid.

The restore fails when the generated DD storage-unit password has a space at the start.

As a workaround, change the storage-unit password:

  1. In the PowerProtect Data Manager UI, select Infrastructure > Storage.
  2. Select the DD from the list, and click Manage Storage Units.
  3. Select the storage unit that is created for the protection policy, and click Update Password.
  4. In the Update Password for Storage Unit(s) dialog box, select Enter a new password, type the password in the Password field, and click Save.
