PowerProtect Data Manager 19.10 Microsoft SQL Server User Guide

The Microsoft application agent supports only a domain Administrator or local Administrator account for the virtual machine credentials. The user can be an Administrator, a domain user with local Administrator privileges, or a local user with local Administrator privileges (user is added to the domain of PowerProtect Data Manager).

Enabling a domain user with local Administrator privileges

To enable the support for a domain user with local Administrator privileges, complete the following steps:

1. Create a domain user (dns\domainuser).
2. Make the user a member of the "Backup Operators" and "Remote Desktop Users" Active Directory groups.
3. Log in to the Microsoft SQL Server host as an Administrator, and complete the following steps:
   1. Add the Microsoft SQL Server host to the domain with the domain user (dns\domainuser) that was created in step 1.
   2. Select Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage User Accounts, and add the new user with local Administrator privileges.
   3. Select Start > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > User Rights Assignment > Log on as Service, and add the new user.

4. Perform the following steps to disable UAC through the registry:

   1. Open the Run window, type regedit, and click OK.

   2. Browse to the following registry key:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

   3. Change the EnableLUA registry entry to 0.
   4. Reboot the machine.
5. Install the Microsoft SQL Server and the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) with the domain user account that was created in step 1.

Enabling a local user with local Administrator privileges

To enable the support for a local user with local Administrator privileges, complete the following steps:

1. Create a local user with local Administrator privileges.
2. Disable UAC.
3. Add the SLQ Server host to the same domain to which the PowerProtect Data Manager is tagged.
