Gigabit Ethernet ports

Three Gigabit Ethernet ports on the front panel support Intel i210 or i225 (top speed is limited to 1 GbE with i225) and i219LM Gigabit Ethernet PHY controller and connection, providing the following:

  • IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet
  • IEEE 1588/802.1AS precision time synchronization
  • IEEE 802.3Qav traffic shaper (i210/i225 only)
  • Interrupt moderation, VLAN support, IP checksum offload (i210/i225 only)
  • RSS and MSI-X to lower CPU utilization in multicore systems (i210/i225 only)
  • ECC—error correcting memory in packet buffers (i210/i225 only)
  • Wake-On-LAN
  • Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) flash interface
  • Jumbo frame support

Due to supplier constraints, the Intel Ethernet Networking Adapter is updated from i210 to i225 on LAN2 and LAN3, effective May 2023. This change has the following impacts:

  • The default firmware for TPM changes from Rev 5.8 to Rev 5.63 to ensure that the Endorsement Key certificate matches the Endorsement Key public key. This impact of this change is that current firmware is no longer FIPS certified.
  • If users have a product with an i210 and they buy a later version with i225 to use with it, they must revalidate network functionality on their software stack.
  • If users create their own custom image, they must update the Ethernet driver. Download the driver from the Dell Technologies Support Site under Drivers & Downloads.
