Replacing the backup battery
Prerequisites
CAUTION Dispose the battery according to local ordinance.
NOTE You will need to run the BIOS Setup to restore the configuration settings to the RTC.
- Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
- Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
- Remove the system cover.
- Remove the butterfly module.
Steps
- Locate the battery on the server board.

- Gently press the metal clip as shown to release the battery.
- Remove the battery from the plastic socket.

- Dispose of the battery according to local ordinance.
- Remove the new lithium battery from its package, and, being careful to observe the correct polarity, insert it in the battery socket.
Next steps
- Install the butterfly module.
- Install the top cover.
- Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
- While booting, press F2 to enter the System Setup and ensure that the battery is operating properly.
- Enter the correct time and date in the System Setup Time and Date fields.
- Exit the System Setup.
