Modify who can use a plugin feature by their user group

Some plugins allow admins to grant access to features based on DataIQ groups.

Prerequisites

Install the plugin. After the plugin is installed, you can configure or enable it.

About this task

  • For many plugins, such as Data Mover, Audited Deletes, Previewer, Duplicate Finder, and plugins that have been converted from legacy ClarityNow! custom context menus, you can modify files through a configuration file.
  • For custom plugins, configurations may be managed through the UI for the plugin itself.
NOTE

Use these instructions to modify configurations through the DataIQ UI. Do not modify the configuration file directly from the command line while DataIQ is running, because the changes may not be applied and could break the plugin functionality.

Steps

  1. From the DataIQ browser: Select Settings > Data management configuration.
  2. Open the plugin configuration file: In the Plugins section, select the (vertical ellipses) icon next to the plugin, and select Edit configuration .
  3. Modify which groups have access to the actions within the plugin. Group names are case sensitive. Each line should start with a dash and space (- ) aligned with the groups category. In this example, three groups are allowed access to the Preview function in the "Previewer" app:
    #
    "Plugin Name": "Previewer"
    "Version": "2.17"
    "Actions":
      "Preview":
        endpoint: "/execute/"
        filter:
          groups:
          - DataIQ Administrators
          - Data Managers
          - MyCompany IT Leads

    Note, when troubleshooting whether individuals should have access to plugins, check the user profile settings, because users may belong to multiple groups.
