DataIQ 2.2 Admin Guide

PDF

Set up file type classes

You can define classes of files, such as video files, image files or streaming media files, based on the file extensions.

About this task

When file type classes are enabled:

  • DataIQ uses additional system memory, about n*80 + 310 bytes per folder are needed, where n is the number of file type classes.
  • DataIQ uses additional CPU processing, which may affect scan performance.

Steps

  1. In the DataIQ UI, in the Settings tab, select Data management configuration > Configure file type classes.
  2. In File type class recording, select Enabled.
  3. Select ⊕ Add a new file type class.
  4. Add classes. For example, create a class that is named Video files, and include the following extensions:
avi flv h264 m4v mkv mov mp4 mpg mpeg rm swf vob wmv

If a file extension is listed in more than one class, DataIQ only reports it in one of the classes.

There are many lists of common file extensions available online, for example, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_formats.

  5. Select Save changes. The next database scan is configured to be a full scan. You can start a volume scan, or wait until DataIQ scans the database automatically.
