Viewfilters

Set up viewfilters to restrict viewable folders by group.

Configure settings

You can configure viewfilters by using Java regular-expressions. Use online tools like RegEx Reference or the Regular Expression Analyzer to learn about and test RegEx expressions.

Rules:

  • If a volume or folder matches the regular expression for the user's group, then the user can view that volume and folder. If a user is a member of more than one group, the user is only restricted from folders that are restricted in all their groups.
  • The volume <re> and each sub <re> to its lowest leaf (an "re set") must match for a folder to be shown (its children will be also shown).
  • If any "re set" matches a folder, <re> checking stops for that folder for that group.
  • If a user is a member of more than one group, the user will only be restricted from folders that are restricted in all their groups.
  • You can use either spaces or tabs for indenting, but not both. Spaces are recommended.
  • Viewfilters do not restrict views for members of either the Administrator or Data Manager groups.

From the web UI, select Settings > Data management configuration > Configure viewfilter.

Viewfilter format

The format is described below and is also shown in the sample file:

group <groupname>
volume <re> # Show entire volumes matching this <re>
volume <re> # Show only folders in these volumes that also match sets below
folder <re> # Show folders matching this <re> set
folder <re> # Show only the folders in the subfolder below
folder <re> # Show folders matching this <re> set

In this example, replace the bracketed items as follows:

<groupname>
The name of the DataIQ user group for which the set of rules applies.
<re>
Regular expression pattern, used to match volumes and folders

Example

In this example, two groups are defined. For users in the Managers group, they can see entire volumes that start with NearLine. Managers can only see content in the managers and executives/shared folders in the Secret volume. Anonymous, non-authenticated users can only see content in the Presentations volume.

group Managers # rules for group named "Managers"
volume Nearline0\d # Mangers can see volumes matching this <re> such as "Nearline03"
  volume Secret
folder mgrs # Managers can see anything in or under "Secret/mgrs"
    folder exec
folder shared # Managers can see "Secret/exec/shared",
                      # but cannot see "Secret/exec/(anything other than shared)"

group Anonymous users # Members in "Anonymous users" group may see the following:
  volume Presentations
    folder Samples
folder 2021Winners # May see anything in "Presentations/Samples/2021Winners"
      folder previews
folder public # May see anything in "Presentations/Samples/previews/public"
      folder trailers
folder public # May see anything in "Presentations/Samples/trailers/public"
folder foundOnline # May see anything in "Presentations/foundOnline"
