Behavior when a drive is connected to a BOSS-N1 controller

Table 1. Behavior when a drive is connected to a BOSS-N1 controller Behavior when a new drive is attached to a BOSS-N1 controller.
BOSS-N1 controller security mode Fresh SED Migrated SED (drive secured using another server) Non-SED
Enabled iDRAC assigns key and secures it. iDRAC reads the key ID from drive:
  • If the security configuration matches, iDRAC unlocks the drive.
  • If the security configuration does not match, the drive stays in locked state.
The BOSS-N1 controller marks the drives as failed.
Disabled BOSS-N1 can access the SED but will use the drive in an unsecured mode. Drive stays in the locked state. The BOSS-N1 controller can access the drive and use it.
NOTE: When the controller security mode is enabled, only secure unlocked drives can be used to create a VD.
