Install the SDC on a RHEL, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, or CentOS Stream instance

Perform this task to install the SDC software on an instance that uses a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), or CentOS Stream AMI. The following instructions explain how to connect to the SDC host instance using a proxy instance. If necessary, substitute the instructions for connecting to the instance using a different secure machine connection.

Prerequisites

Ensure that you know the following IP addresses:

  • IP address of the proxy instance
  • Login credentials and IP address of each SDC instance
  • IP addresses for the MDM management instances

Ensure that you have the required installation software package for the operating system of the SDC instance. The installation files are available for download as the PowerFlex Complete Software Download on the Dell Technologies support site.

Steps

  1. Copy the following files to the proxy instance if you have not already done so:
    • EMC-ScaleIO-lia (EMC-ScaleIO-lia*.rpm)
    • EMC-ScaleIO-sdc (EMC-ScaleIO-sdc*.rpm)
    • RPM-GPG-KEY-ScaleIO (RPM-GPG-KEY-ScaleIO_*)
  2. Log in to the proxy instance and open a terminal window:
  3. Copy the SDC installation file (EMC-ScaleIO-sdc*.rpm) from the proxy instance to the first SDC instance:
    scp -i keyfile.pem EMC-ScaleIO-sdc-* ec2-user@<sdc_ip>:/home/ec2-user/
  4. Copy the PowerFlex LIA installation file (EMC-ScaleIO-lia*.rpm) from the proxy instance to the SDC instance:
    scp -i keyfile.pem EMC-ScaleIO-lia* ec2-user@<sdc_ip>:/home/ec2-user/
  5. Log in to the SDC instance using SSH and install the GPG key.
NOTE:The GPG key is included in the PowerFlex software package.

From the PowerFlex installation folder, run:

    rpm --import RPM-GPG-KEY-ScaleIO
  6. Run the following commands to install the software:
    ssh -i keyfile.pem ec2-user@<sdc_ip>
    sudo TOKEN=My_PowerFlex_Password rpm -ivh EMC-ScaleIO-lia*.rpm
    sudo MDM_IP=<list_mdm_ips> rpm -ivh EMC-ScaleIO-sdc*.rpm

  7. Run the following command to verify that the driver is loaded:
    • SLES 15:
      systemctl status scini
    • All other Linux operating systems:
      service scini status
  8. Repeat steps 3-7 for each additional SDC that you are installing on an RHEL, CentOS stream, or SLES instance.

Results

The SDC is installed on the instance and is connected to PowerFlex.
