System setup options

NOTE:Depending on your computer and its installed devices, the items that are listed in this section may or may not appear.
Table 1. System setup options—Main menu

The following table describes the Main menu options in the System setup program.

System Time Displays the current time in hh:mm:ss format.
System Date Displays the current date in mm/dd/yyyy format.
BIOS Version Displays the BIOS version.
Product Name Displays the model number of your computer.
Service Tag Displays the service tag of your computer.
Asset Tag Displays the asset tag of your computer.
CPU Type Displays the processor type.
CPU Speed Displays the processor speed.
CPU ID Displays the processor identification code.
CPU Cache
L1 Cache Displays the processor L1 cache size.
L2 Cache Displays the processor L2 cache size.
L3 Cache Displays the processor L3 cache size.
M.2 PCIe SSD-1 Display the M.2 PCIe SSD device information of the computer.
M.2 PCIe SSD-2 Display the M.2 PCIe SSD device information of the computer.
AC Adapter Type Displays the type of AC adapter.
System Memory Displays the size of memory installed.
Memory Speed Displays the speed of memory.

The following table describes the Advance menu options in the System setup program.

Intel® SpeedStep Enables or disables Intel® SpeedStep technology.

Default: Enabled

HyperThread Control Enables or disables HyperThread Control.

Default: Enabled

Multi-Cores Support Allows you to configure the number of cores supported.

Default: All

Multiple Atom cores Allows you to configure the number of Atom cores supported.

Default: All

USB Emulation

Enables or disables the USB emulation feature. This feature defines how the BIOS, in the absence of a USB-aware operating system, handles USB devices. USB emulation is always enabled during POST.

NOTE:

You cannot boot any type of USB device (floppy, hard drive, or memory key) when this option is off.

Default: Enabled

USB Powershare Enables or disables USB PowerShare.

Default: Enabled

SATA/NVMe Operation

Allows you to configure the operating mode of the integrated storage device controller.

Default: RAID on.

Storage device is configured to support RAID functions. When enabled, all NVMe and SATA devices will be mapped under VMD controller. Windows RST (Intel Rapid Restore Technology) driver, or Linux kernel VMD driver must be loaded in order to boot the operating system.

Adapter Warnings

Allows you to choose if the computer should display warning messages when you use AC adapters that are not supported by your computer.

Default: Enabled

Function Key behavior Allows you to define the primary behavior of the function keys (F1-F12)
Battery Health Displays the battery health.
Enable Hybrid Graphics/ Advanced Optimus Enables or disables Hybrid Graphics

Default: Enabled

Camera Enables or disables the camera.

Default: Enabled

Thunderbolt Enables or disables Thunderbolt.

Default: Enabled

Thunderbolt with Boot support Enables or disables Thunderbolt with Boot support.

Default: Enabled

Enable Thunderbolt (and PCIe behind TBT)Pre-boot Modules Enables or disables to allow or disallow PCIe devices to be connected through a Thunderbolt adapter during pre-boot.

Default: Disabled

Thunderbolt Adapter Configuration The settings below configure the Thunderbolt adapter security settings within the operating system. Security Levels are not applicable or enforced in the Pre-boot environment.
  • No Security: Automatically connect to devices plugged into the Thunderbolt port.
  • User Authorization: Approval is required for any new devices connected to the Thunderbolt port
  • Secure Connect: The Thunderbolt adapter port will only allow connections to devices that have been configured with a shared key.
  • Display Port and USB Only: Automatically connect to Display Port and USB devices only. No Thunderbolt adapter or PCIe devices are allowed to connect.

Default: User Authorization

IPv4 HTTP Support Enables IPv4 HTTP Boot support.

Default: Disabled

IPv6 HTTP Support Enables IPv6 HTTP Boot support.

Default: Disabled

Power Options When enabled, this setting allows the computer to power up from the off state whenever the lid is opened. The computer will turn on when powered either by the AC adapter or by the system battery.

Default: Enabled

Performance Options These fields let you control Performance Options with Graphic Dock.
CPU TCC offset

This option regulates maximum CPU operating temperature. Increasing TCC Offset reduces maximum CPU operating temperature. Increasing TCC Offset value may reduce CPU performance in certain applications.

Default: 0

Overclocking Feature
NOTE:Only for computers with 12th Generation Intel Core i9k processors

This field enables or disables global overclocking functions. When this option is enabled, overclocking options are displayed.

Default: Enabled

Core Over Clocking Level#
NOTE:Only appears after Overclocking Feature has been enabled.

When enabled, this allows CPUs to adjust the Flex Ratio and Voltage in a Turbo Mode environment.

Enables or disable data wipe on the next boot.

To preserve the data on a specific device, remove it before initiating this process.

WARNING:This operation will permanently delete all data from the device.

BIOS Recovery from Hard Drive Allows you to recover certain corrupted BIOS conditions from a recovery file on your primary hard drive or an external USB drive.

When "Enabled" is selected, BIOS stores the recovery file on your primary hard drive. BIOS Recovery is available via the recovery file on your primary hard drive or an external USB drive.

When "Disabled" is selected, BIOS does not store the recovery file on your primary hard drive. BIOS Recovery is only available using the external USB drive.

BIOS Recovery using external USB drive is always enabled with either options.

BIOS Recovery from Hard Drive is not supported when the hard drives are configured for RAID mode

SupportAssist System Resolution
Auto OS Recovery Threshold

Controls the automatic boot flow for SupportAssist System Resolution Console and for the Dell operating system Recovery tool.

NOTE: If Auto OS Recovery Threshold is set to Off, onboard diagnostics will not be run in response to consecutive primary operating system boot failures.

Default: 2

SupportAssist OS Recovery

Enables or disables the boot flow for the SupportAssist OS Recovery tool in the event of certain system errors.

If set to disabled, all automatic boot flow for SupportAssist OS Recovery tool will be disabled.

Default: Disabled

Battery Charge Configuration

Set the battery charge settings with a preselected custom charge start and stop.

  • Adaptive - Battery settings are optimized based on your typical battery usage pattern.
  • Standard - Fully charges your battery at the standard rate.
  • ExpressCharge (TM) - The battery is charged using Dell's fast charging technology.
  • Primarily AC Use - Extends battery lifespan for users who primarily operate their computers while plugged in to an external power source.
  • Custom - Custom select when the battery starts and stops charging.

Intel ® Rapid Storage Technology Allows you to get more information about the RAID volumes on the Intel(R) RAID Controller.
Table 3. System setup options—Security menu

The following table describes the Security menu options in the System setup program.

Admin Password Displays if the administrator password is clear or set.
System Password Displays if the system password is clear or set.

Default: Not Set

Admin Password Allows you to set the administrator password. The administrator password controls access to the system setup utility.
System Password Allows you to set the system password. The system password controls access to the computer at boot.
Password Change Allows you to permit or deny system password or HDD password changes.

Default: Permitted

Absolute® Enables or disables the BIOS module interface of the optional Computrace Service from Absolute Software.

Default: Deactivate

Absolute® Status Enables or disables SED Block SID Authentication.

Default: Disabled

Windows SMM Security Mitigations Table (WSMT) Enables or disables the Windows SMM Security Mitigations Table. It allows the system firmware to confirm to the OS that certain security best practices have been implemented in the System Management Mode (SMM) software.

Default: Disabled

Firmware TPM Enable or disable the firmware TPM.

Default: Enabled

PPI Bypass for Clear Command Allows you to control the TPM Physical Presence Interface (PPI). When enabled, this setting will allow the OS to skip BIOS PPI user prompts when issuing the Clear command. Changes to this setting take effect immediately.

Default: Disabled

UEFI Firmware Capsule Updates Enables or disables BIOS updates through UEFI capsule update packages.

Default: Enabled

Secure Boot Enables or disables configuration of platform features on Dell Client Systems with WSMT-enabled BIOS.

Default: Enabled

The following table describes the Exit menu options in the System setup program.

Save Change Without Exit Allows you to save your changes without exiting the BIOS setup.
Exit Discarding Changes Allows you to exit the BIOS setup without saving the changes.
Load Optimal Defaults Allows you to restore default values for all system setup options.
Discard Changes Allows you to load previous values for all system setup options.
