Powering off

To safely power off the PowerFlex rack, power off one component at a time, in the order specified in this procedure.

Following is the general power off workflow:
  • Check PowerFlex health and rebuild status and shut down all VMs on the customer vCenter
  • Power off PowerFlex compute-only nodes with VMware ESXi
  • Power off PowerFlex compute-only nodes with Windows Server 2016 or 2019
  • Deactivate both source and destination PowerFlex protection domains if asynchronous replication is enabled and power off PowerFlex storage-only nodes
  • Power off non-mdm and non-tiebreaker PowerFlex storage-only nodes
  • Power off PowerFlex hyperconverged nodes
  • Power off MDM cluster
  • Power off VMware NSX-T Edge nodes
  • Power off the PowerFlex management controller 1.0
  • Power off the PowerFlex management controller 2.0
  • Complete the powering off of PowerFlex rack
  • Power off PDUs
NOTE:Powering off must be completed in this order for the components that you have in your environment.
Identify node types in the PowerFlex GUI presentation server:
  • For PowerFlex hyperconverged nodes, click Configuration > SDC or Configuration > SDS.
  • For PowerFlex compute-only nodes with VMware ESXi, click Configuration > SDC.

To facilitate powering on the PowerFlex rack later, document the location of the management infrastructure VMs on their respective hosts. Also, verify that all startup configurations for the Cisco and Dell EMC devices are saved.

See the Dell VxBlockTM System 1000 and PowerFlex Rack Physical Planning Guide for information about power specifications.
