Deploy a service

Use this procedure to deploy a service. You cannot deploy a service using a template that is in draft state. Publish the template before using it to deploy a service.

Steps

  1. On the menu bar, click Services > Deploy New Service.
  2. On the Deploy Service page, perform the following steps:
    1. From the Select Published Template list, select the template to deploy a service.
    2. Enter the Service Name and Service Description that identifies the service.
    3. To specify the version to use for compliance, select the version from the Firmware and Software Compliance list or choose Use PowerFlex Manager appliance default catalog.
PowerFlex Manager checks the VMware vCenter version to determine if it matches the VMware ESXi version for the selected compliance version. If the VMware ESXi version is greater than the vCenter version, PowerFlex Manager blocks the service deployment and displays an error. PowerFlex Manager instructs you to upgrade vCenter first, or use a different compliance version that is compatible with the installed vCenter version.
NOTE:Changing the firmware repository might update the firmware level on nodes for this service. The global default firmware repository maintains the firmware on the shared devices.
    4. Indicate Who should have access to the service deployed from this template by selecting one of the available options.
For a hyperconverged or PowerFlex storage-only node deployment, if you want to use CloudLink encryption, perform the following:
    1. Verify that CloudLink Center is deployed.
    2. In the template, under Node settings, select Enable Encryption (Software Encryption/Self Encrypting Drive).
    3. Under PowerFlex Cluster settings, select CloudLink Center.
  3. Click Next.
  4. On the Deployment Settings page, configure the required settings. You can override many of the settings that are specified in the template. You must specify other settings that are not part of the template:
If you are deploying a service with CloudLink, ensure that the correct CloudLink Center is displayed under the CloudLink Center Settings.
    1. To configure OS Settings, select an IP Source. To manually enter the IP address, select User Entered IP. From the IP Source list, select Manual Entry. Then enter the IP address in the Static IP Address box.
NOTE:For a multi-VLAN or multi-subnet configuration, it is required to manually enter the IP address of one or more of the network types (hypervisor management, hypervisor migration, PowerFlex management, PowerFlex replication) for each PowerFlex hyperconverged node. This is required since PowerFlex Manager is not aware of the rack or row location of the hypervisor host. Each rack or row will have a different subnet for one or more of the network types.
    2. To configure Hardware Settings, select the node source from the Node Source list.
      • If you select Node Pool, you can view all user-defined node pools and the global pool. Standard users can see only the pools for which they have permission. Select the Retry On Failure option to ensure that PowerFlex Manager selects another node from the node pool for deployment if any node fails. Each node can be retried up to five times.
      • If you select Manual Entry, the Choose Node list is displayed. Select the node for deployment from the list by its Service Tag.
NOTE:For a fault set-enabled service, you can choose the fault set number or choose PowerFlex Manager selected fault set.
    3. Under PowerFlex Settings, specify the Journal Capacity for a storage-only or hyperconverged service that has replication enabled in the template. The default journal capacity is 10% of the overall capacity, however you can customize the capacity according to the requirement.
    4. Under PowerFlex Settings, choose one of the following options for PowerFlex MDM Virtual IP Source:
      • PowerFlex Manager Selected IP instructs PowerFlex Manager to select the virtual IP addresses.
      • User Entered IP enables you to specify the IP address manually for each PowerFlex data network that is part of the node definition in the service template.
NOTE:Verify that the correct disk type (NVMe or SSD) is selected. From the Deployment Settings page, select PowerFlex Setting > Storage Pool disk type. Ensure that you select the correct disk type: (NVMe or SSD).
  5. Click Next.
  6. On the Schedule Deployment page, select one of the following options and click Next:
    • Deploy Now—Select this option to deploy the service immediately.
    • Deploy Later—Select this option and enter the date and time to deploy the service.
  7. Review the Summary page.
The Summary page gives you a preview of what the service will look like after the deployment.
  8. Click Finish when you are ready to begin the deployment. For more information, see PowerFlex Manager online help.
