Creating users

About this task

useradd allows you to add users and specify certain criteria such as: comments, the users home directory, shell type, and many others account properties for SUSE Linux operating system.

Steps

  1. SSH to the server, and type: Server1:~# useradd -m -c "<test username>" -s /bin/bash <test>.

    Where <test> is a shell type of bash.

    The following table that explains what each qualifier is used for:
    Qualifier Description
    -m This qualifier makes the useradd command create the users home directory.
    -c "test username" This qualifier specifies a comment about the user.
    -s /bin/bash This qualifier specifies which shell the user should use.
    test The final qualifier is the username of the user.
  2. Set the associated password, type: server1:~ # passwd <test>.
    server1:~ # passwd <test>
    Changing password for <test>.
    New Password:
    Reenter New Password:
    Password changed.
    
    Once the password is set, the user can successfully log in to the server.
