Upgrade the VMware vSphere Distributed Switch

Use this procedure to upgrade the VMware vSphere distributed switch.

Steps

  1. Connect to the VMware vCenter server using the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Networking and select the VMware Distributed Switch you want to upgrade.
  3. Right-click the dvSwitch and select Settings > Export Configuration.
  4. Select configuration to export distributed switch and all port groups.
  5. Enter a description and click OK and Yes.
  6. Select the location, enter the file name, and click Save.
    NOTE For VMware vSphere 6.7, from the vSphere client HTML5 and Mozilla Firefox, click OK twice. There is no prompt for filename or save. With Google Chrome, click OK once. There is no prompt for filename or save.
  7. To upgrade VMware vSphere Distributed Switch, right-click Distributed Switch > Upgrade > Upgrade Distributed Switch.
    NOTE There are two upgrade options available, Upgrade Network I/O Control, and Enhanced LACP Support. The Network I/O Control upgrade is required. The Enhanced LACP Support option is required only if it is enabled.
  8. On the first screen, select Next to confirm the upgrade.
  9. VMware vCenter performs compatibility checking if connected hosts are compatible. Click Next to continue.
    The last screen summarizes the steps of the upgrade to the VMware Distributed Switch.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. Repeat the steps for all VMware vSphere Distributed Switches.
