Dell EMC PowerFlex Appliance Administration Guide

Enable fine granularity metadata read cache using the command line

Use this procedure to enable metadata read cache for fine granularity storage pools for PowerFlex versions 3.5 and later.

About this task

  • PowerFlex Manager versions 3.8 and higher will enable this for new fine granularity storage pools.
  • To determine the size, use the following formula: total drive capacity in TiB * 8%, if less than or equal to 32 GB.

Steps

  1. Access the primary MDM:
    1. In a hyperconverged deployment, use SSH to connect to the SVM that is acting as the primary MDM.
    2. In a two-layer deployment, use SSH to connect to the PowerFlex storage-only node that is acting as the primary MDM.
  2. From the PowerFlex CLI, type:
scli --login --username admin --password MDM_password
    scli --set_default_fgl_metadata_cache_size --protection_domain_name <Protection Domain Name> --metadata_cache_size_mb <Size in MB>
    scli --enable_fgl_metadata_cache --protection_domain_name <Protection Domain Name>
  3. For each SDS with fine granularity storage pools, type scli -set_fgl_metadata_cache_size -sds_id <ID> --metadata_cache_size_mb <SIZE in MB>.
