Dell EMC PowerFlex Appliance Administration Guide

Administering the storage

Perform the following procedures to administer the PowerFlex appliance storage.

Observe the following considerations when administering the storage:
  • PowerFlex management controller 2.0:
    • PERC 755 raid controllers are added as a service in lifecycle mode in PowerFlex Manager.
    • HBA 355 raid controllers are added as a service in managed mode in PowerFlex Manager.
Lifecycle mode The service supports health and compliance monitoring, service mode, and non-disruptive upgrades. All other service operations are blocked. Lifecycle mode controls the operations that can be performed for configurations that have limited support.
Managed mode The service supports health and compliance monitoring, non-disruptive upgrades, automated resource addition, and automated resource replacement features.
  • Using PowerFlex Manager to enter a node into maintenance mode ensures that no more than one host is in maintenance mode at any given time.
  • If you make manual changes outside of PowerFlex Manager, (for example, using PowerFlex GUI or scli), you might need to perform some steps within PowerFlex Manager to ensure that the external changes are reflected within the user interface and the environment is kept in a healthy state. See Managing external changes in the PowerFlex Manager online help.
