ECS 3.6.1 Administration Guide

Delete a replication group

You can delete the last VDC associated with a user replication group when the VDC fails permanently.

Prerequisites

This operation requires the System Administrator role in ECS.

About this task

You can delete the failed VDC from the system after all references to user replication groups have been removed. After the last VDC is removed, the replication group will no longer appear in the list of user replication groups. After the last VDC is removed the replication group can no longer be used. Any attempt to perform operations to the deleted replication group such as adding an active VDC to it results in an error.

Steps

  1. Shut down the VDC and wait for 15 minutes.
Replication group (RG) with a single VDC: In RG level, the shutdown VDC status is shown as Unattainable.
Replication group (RG) with more than one VDC: In RG level, the shutdown VDC status is shown as Temporarily Unavailable.
  2. Fail the shutdown VDC through REST API.
    curl -k -X POST -H Content-Type:application/json -H "$TOKEN" -H ACCEPT:application/json https://<Node IP>:4443/object/vdcs/vdc/<VDC ID>/fail?overridePrechecks=true
NOTE An error message displays while trying to fail shutdown VDC from ECS UI.
Unable to Fail Virtual Data Center VDC2. Error
40040 (http: 400): Please contact customer support when failing a
VDC with replication groups only associated with a single VDC to
prevent potential data loss. To prevent potential data loss please
contact customer support for assistance failing a VDC associated
    with single VDC replication groups.
  3. In VDC and RG level, state of the shutdown VDC is shown as Permanently Failed.
    • If there is a single VDC, the associated RG gets a new drop-down. To delete the RG, select Delete.
    • If the shutdown VDC is associated with other RGs, to delete the RG, select Edit > Remove.
NOTE If you try to delete the failed VDC from federation or VDC level, where the failed VDC is associated with any RG, an error message is displayed.
Error 1007 (http: 405): Method not supported. Operation not supported. Reason: Zone still referenced by one or more User Replication Groups.
  4. To delete a failed VDC, select the VDC, and from the drop-down of the failed VDC, select Delete.
