Place a node into service mode to perform maintenance operations on the node.
About this task
When you put a node into service mode, you specify whether you are performing short-term or long-term maintenance work. The option that you use for long-term maintenance depends on the
PowerFlex version you are using.
PowerFlex Manager does not allow a node to enter service mode in the following scenarios:
DAS Cache is installed.
VMware NSX-T or NSX-V is configured.
PowerFlex Gateway used in the service is being updated on the
Resources page.
Services that do not have switches discovered.
Prerequisites
Before you evacuate a node for long-term maintenance work, ensure:
There are at least four nodes in the cluster.
There is enough storage space on the remaining nodes so that the data from the evacuated node can be migrated to one of the remaining nodes.
If using protected maintenance mode, the sum of the spare and free capacity must be greater than the size of the node being put into protected maintenance mode.
Steps
On the menu bar, click
Services.
On the
Services page, select a service and click
View Details in the right pane.
Click
Enter Service Mode under
Service Actions.
Select one or more nodes on the
Node Lists page and click
Next.
You can put multiple nodes in service mode simultaneously only if all the nodes are in the same fault set.
Specify the type of maintenance you want to perform by selecting one of the following options:
Instant Maintenance Mode: Use to perform short-term maintenance that lasts less than 30 minutes.
PowerFlex Manager does not migrate the data.
Protected Maintenance Mode: Use to perform maintenance that requires longer than 30 minutes in a safe and protected manner. When you use protected maintenance mode,
PowerFlex makes a temporary copy of the data so that the cluster is fully protected from data loss. Protected maintenance mode applies only to hyperconverged and storage-only services.
Evacuate Node from PowerFlex (PowerFlex version prior to 3.5): Use to perform long-term maintenance that lasts more than 30 minutes.
PowerFlex Manager migrates the data to other nodes in the cluster. It takes longer to evacuate a node, but it is safer because there is no risk of a reboot causing data to be unavailable. Evacuation mode applies only to hyperconverged and storage-only services.
Click
Enter Service Mode.
PowerFlex Manager displays a yellow warning banner at the top of the service page. The
Service Mode icon displays for the
Deployment State and
Overall Service Health, and for the
Resource Health for the selected nodes.
To leave service mode, click
Service Actions > Exit Service Mode.
