Reset your Dell SE2417HG Monitor to Factory Settings

To reset your Dell SE2417HG Monitor to Factory Settings, follow these instructions:

  1. Press Button 3 (Figure 1) on the monitor to enter the On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu.
  2. Press Button 1 or Button 2 to highlight Others option in the menu and press Button 3 to select.
  3. Press Button 1 or Button 2 to highlight Factory Reset option in the menu and press Button 3 to select.
  4. Press Button 3 to confirm the reset action.

How to run the Monitor Self-Test?

It is always essential to isolate the monitor while troubleshooting your computer for the following scenarios:

  • No Power - Your computer is not powering ON or showing any signs of power.
  • No POST - Your computer is not showing any indication of activity, the screen might be blank and will not display the Dell logo during start-up.
  • No Video - You are unable to see any display on the screen, able to hear the windows chime but no display is seen.

Your Dell SE2417HG Monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether the monitor is functioning properly. If the monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:

  1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove the video cables (VGA, DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort) from the back of the computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor.
    If the monitor is working correctly, it detects that there is no signal and one of the following message (Figure 2) appears. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains white.

    Note: This box also appears during normal system operation, if the video cable is disconnected or damaged.
  4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable: then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
  5. If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video card (GPU) and computer, because your monitor is functioning properly.

How to run the Built-In Diagnostics?

Your Dell SE2417HG monitor has a built-in diagnostic tool that helps to determine if the screen abnormality you are experiencing is a problem with the monitor or with the video card on your computer.

When you notice screen abnormalities like distortion, clarity, horizontal or vertical lines, color fade etc., it is always a good practise to isolate the monitor by running the Built-In Diagnostics.

Note: You can run the built-in diagnostics only when the video cable is unplugged and the monitor is in self-test mode.
  1. Unplug the video cable(s) from the back of the computer or the monitor. The monitor will now enter self-test mode.
  2. On the front panel, press and hold Button 1 and Button 4 simultaneously for two seconds (Figure 3). A gray screen appears.
  3. Carefully inspect the screen for abnormalities.
  4. Press Button 4 on the front panel again. The color of the screen changes to red.
  5. Inspect the display for any abnormalities.
  6. Repeat step 5 and step 6 to inspect the display in green, blue, black, white and text screens.
  7. The test is complete when the white screen appears.
  8. Press Button 4 to exit the Built-In diagnostics.
Make sure that the screen is clean (no dust particles on the surface of the screen).

Note: If you do not detect any screen abnormalities upon using the built-in diagnostic tool, the monitor is functioning properly. Check the video card (GPU) and the computer.

No Power - Unable to Power ON the monitor

The LED lights on the monitor are always black/switched off and there is no image displayed on the screen.

  1. Try a known-good power outlet. If you are using a surge protector, connect the monitor directly to the wall outlet.
  2. Check if the power cable is connected properly. Try a known-good power cable to isolate issues with the power cable.
  3. Check if the Power Button is in ON state. Try to switch OFF and switch ON the monitor.
  4. If the monitor is still not powering ON, contact Dell Technical Support for in-warranty repairs.

No Image - No Image is displayed on the monitor

The LED lights on the monitor is ON, however there is no image displayed on the screen.

  1. Press the Input key or Button 1.
  2. Check if the Input Source menu is displayed on the screen. If yes, the monitor is functioning normally.
    Select the correct Input Source to resolve the problem.
  3. If the Input Source menu is not displayed, contact Dell Technical Support for in-warranty repairs.

No Signal - Monitor shows No Signal

The LED lights on the monitor is ON, however the screen displays a message No VGA Cable.

  1. Check the VGA or HDMI cable that is connected for damages. Swap with a known-good VGA or HMDI cable, if available.
  2. Try reconnecting the VGA or HDMI cable to the monitor and the computer.
  3. Swap the ends of the VGA or HDMI cable between the monitor and the computer. Ensure that the cable is seated properly.
  4. Press Button 1 to bring up the Input Source menu. Use Button 1 or Button 2 to toggle between VGA or HDMI source and then press Button 3 to confirm your selection (Figure 3).
  5. If the monitor still shows the message No VGA Cable or No HDMI Cable, contact Dell Technical Support for in-warranty repairs.

OSD Locked - Monitor OSD Menu is locked

The monitor displays a Lock symbol (Figure x) when you try to access the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.

Press and hold the Button 4 for 10 seconds to unlock and access all the settings in the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu (Figure 3).


Color Deviation - Some colors are light or heavier than usual

Some colors (Red, Green & Blue) might seem lighter or heavier than usual on the screen.

  1. Check the VGA or HDMI cable that is connected for damages. Swap with a known-good VGA or HMDI cable, if available.
  2. Adjust the Color Preset Mode and Input Color Format using the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.
    • Set the Color Preset mode to Standard - This is the monitor's default color settings.
    • Set the Input Color Format to RGB - This is the monitor's default settings.
  3. Reset the Color settings using the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.
  4. Reset the monitor to Factory Settings. Refer to Factory Factory Settings section of this article for more information.
  5. If the monitor still shows signs of color deviation, contact Dell Technical Support for in-warranty repairs.

Poor Focus Picture is fuzzy, blurry or ghosting.
Shaky/Jittery Video Wavy picture or fine movement.
Missing Pixels LCD screen has spots.
  • Cycle power on-off.
  • Pixel that is permanently off is a natural defect that can occur in LCD technology.
  • Run the built-in diagnostics.
Stuck-On/Off Pixels LCD screen has bright spot.
  • Cycle power on-off.
  • A few permanently bright or dark pixels are considered normal by industry standards. The exact number of pixels allowed varies depending on the monitor. Refer to Monitor Quality and Pixel Policy for more details.
  • Run the built-in diagnostics.
Brightness Problems Picture too dim or too bright.
Geometric Distortion Screen not centered correctly.
When using DisplayPort input, the positioning adjustments are not available.
Horizontal/Vertical Lines Screen has one or more lines.
When using DisplayPort input, the positioning adjustments are not available.
Synchronization Problems Screen is scrambled or appears torn.
  • Reset the monitor to the Factory Settings.
  • Perform Auto Adjust via On-Screen Display Menu (OSD).

  • Check for bent or broken pins in the video cable connector.
  • Restart the computer in the power safe mode.
