How to repair the Outlook error "your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable".

Problem

The Outlook out of office feature generates an error when it is turned on. The error states

"your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable".

Cause

If the Exchange database name has a special character in it, the error in figure 1 may occur.  It may be any of the following: ( !@#$%^&*(). This condition may cause the out of office (OOO)  feature to fail to operate.  The error reads as follows:
 

Solution

Rename the database so it doesn’t use the special character set.
