DigitalPersona Personal provides fingerprint authentication for Windows computers, including the following features:
- One Touch Logon – increases both security and convenience by adding fingerprint authentication to the Windows logon procedure. One Touch Logon adds a fingerprint tile to the Windows Vista Welcome screen, which allows users to log on to Windows with their fingerprint in addition to, or as an alternative to, other Windows credentials such as a password or a smart card.
- One Touch Lock/Unlock – provides the ability to lock your computer by double clicking an icon in the notification area, and to unlock it with your fingerprint.
- One Touch Internet – gives you the ability to log on to password protected programs and internet sites with your fingerprint – no more remembering dozens of logins and passwords! The Create Fingerprint Logon wizard guides you through the short process of setting up a program or Web site for fingerprint authentication.
- One Touch Menu – Swipe your fingerprint over the reader to display a menu of major features including:
- Create Fingerprint Logons – The Create Fingerprint Logon wizard guides you through the process of creating a fingerprint logon for a Web site. You can access it from the One Touch Menu or by swiping your fingerprint over the reader while a Login web page is displayed.
- Quick Links – A list of your fingerprint-enabled Web sites is as close as touching the fingerprint reader and clicking on Quick Links.
- Help – The online help for DigitalPersona Personal contains explanations of each feature and step by step instructions for performing most tasks.
- Properties – The Properties dialog allows you to customize the behavior of Personal for the way that you like to work. You can access it from the fingerprint reader icon or from the Start menu.
- Fingerprint Logon Manager – This one stop command center allows you to create, edit and delete fingerprint logons and account data as well as recover passwords that you have previously entered and may have forgotten. Access it from the One Touch Menu, the Start menu or the reader icon menu.
- Import and Export wizard – Back up your fingerprint logons and export them to another computer. Also use this feature to import the fingerprint logons to the new computer. Click Start >> All Programs >> DigitalPersona Personal and select Import and Export Wizard.
- Fingerprint Reader icon and menu – The fingerprint reader icon is located in the notification area (also called the system tray). Click the icon to display its menu providing easy one-click access to the following features:
- Lock Computer – Click this command to lock your computer and then use your fingerprint to unlock it. You can also lock the computer by double clicking this icon.
- Fingerprint Enrollment – This command launches the Fingerprint Enrollment Wizard where you can add or remove your enrolled fingerprints.
- Fingerprint Logon Manager – Allows you to create, edit and delete fingerprint logons and account data as well as recover passwords that you have previously entered and may have forgotten. Access it from the One Touch Menu, the Start menu or the reader icon menu.
- Check for Updates – Searches for a newer version of or update to your DigitalPersona Personal software. If found, you will be guided through downloading and installing the update.
- Properties – The Properties dialog allows you to customize the behavior of Personal for the way that you like to work. You can access it from the fingerprint reader icon or from the Start menu.
- Help – The online help for DigitalPersona Personal contains explanations of each feature and step by step instructions for performing most tasks.
- Hide Icon – If your notification area is too crowded, you can hide the fingerprint reader icon by selecting this command. You can un-hide it by selecting Show fingerprint reader icon on taskbar in the Properties dialog.
- User Account Control – When Windows asks for permission to continue an action, you can respond to the User Account Control with your fingerprint instead of having to type your password.
- Parental Control – Some versions of Windows Vista provide a feature that allows a parent to control what other users of the computer can and cannot do. When the user attempts to do something that has been restricted, a permission dialog displays. Your fingerprint can be used in this dialog to give parental permission to proceed.

In Windows 7 64-bit, users may see a program compatibility warning with DigitalPersona Fingerprint Suite, even though the software functions normally. Be sure to update to the 5.2 release of the software to resolve this issue.
