Notes:
- One of the most common tasks requested when troubleshooting a system is to update the system Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) also called the system setup.
It is strongly suggested that the BIOS be updated to the most current version available before running diagnostics. For more information, refer to Dell Knowledge base article What is BIOS and How to Download and Install the latest BIOS?
- Make note of the ePSA error and validation code.
- The last three digits in the code are called the beep code. These beeps occur when the system is unable to display a message. For example, error code 2000-4224 has a beep code of 224 which may be manifest by 2 beeps – pause - 2 beeps – pause - 4 beeps. In this case, the beeps are trying to inform the operator that the hard drive test was unsuccessful.
- When you have received an error code, locate the error code in the table below, and follow the Next Steps listed. When you require further assistance, please visit our SupportAssist Pre-Boot System Performance Check page, referred to as the ePSA online tool in the table to save space.
- The easiest way to search the table for a code is to press and hold the Ctrl (control) key and to press the f key, this opens the find or search function. Enter the code exactly as it was shown to you.
