How to Disable Wireless when Connected via Wired Connection on Latitude and Precision Laptops

Many system users want the ability to disable wireless networking when a wired network connection is available. Previously, this was completed as a function of the wireless driver.


Change the BIOS Setting

In the Dell Precision Mobile M4600/M6600 series and newer systems, this may be an option in the power management settings of the BIOS.
To enable/disable this feature:

  1. Press F2 during startup to enter the BIOS.
  2. Use the Arrow down key, or click the Power Management Field. Then right arrow to expand the tree and arrow down to or Click Wireless Radio Control.
  3. You can check or uncheck options for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and for Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN). Exit and save the settings. (See Figure 1)

Note: Systems that are equipped with Intel 8260 WLAN cards need to install the WLAN Hotkey Driver (Windows 7). The WLAN RadioSwitch (Windows 8.1 / 10) or the Intel ProSet Admin Utility to provide Adapter Switching capability.
