Windows Autopilot - Preparing Your Computer for Service

Note: Where your computer is registered with Windows Autopilot and requires that a component be replaced. (Either at your location, or at a Dell repair center.) It is critical that you prepare the computer correctly for service. This preparation prevents deployment issues after the repair or replacement of the computer.

Autopilot Deregistration

An Autopilot device must be deregistered before a motherboard replacement

Contact your organization's IT department to have them deregister the device if you are an end-user or work for a helpdesk.

This process must occur before repairing or replacing the computer.


How do I know that my device is enrolled with Autopilot?

  1. Open the Start Menu in the Operating System desktop.

  2. Click on the Start Menu and type Company Portal Company Portal Application Icon to run a search.

    (The device is unlikely to be enrolled in Autopilot if the search does not return Company Portal.)

  3. Click the open link that shows below the company portal applications search return.

  4. When Company Portal opens, scroll down to Devices.

  5. Your computer is listed there if it is enrolled.

Contact your IT department to deregister the device from Intune before the motherboard replacement occurs.


BitLocker and/or Device Encryption

Dell Technologies recommends suspending Microsoft BitLocker to prevent any recovery scenarios that block or delay the servicing of the computer.

Autopilot re-registration

The computer must be re-registered in InTune so that it adopts the company policies after servicing.

This process requires manual setup steps by your IT organization:

  1. Collect the Hardware has from the computer:

  2. Upload the hardware hash to the InTune portal (Either manually or with the PowerShell script Get-WindowsAutoPilotInfo):

  3. Wait for the confirmation that the hardware hash was successfully registered.

  4. Reboot Windows and continue the deployment:

Frequently Asked Questions:

Dell and its support organizations cannot provide the hardware hash and cannot re-register the computer on behalf of our customers.
