This article provides the steps for changing user account passwords in Dell Data Security Management Server Virtual (formerly Dell Data Protection | Virtual Edition) when the current password is not known. If the current user account password is known, it may instead be changed from the administration console. For more information, reference the Change User Passwords section of the Dell Security Management Server Virtual Quick Start and Installation Guide available from Dell Encryption Documentation.

Affected Versions:

  • 8.0.X and later

The process to reset the built-in user passwords of Dell Security Management Server Virtual varies between product versions. Click the appropriate version for specific steps. For versioning information, reference How to Identify the Dell Data Security Server Version.

  1. Log in to the Dell Security Management Server Virtual administration console using dellsupport.

    Note:
    • The default credentials for Dell Security Management Server Virtual are:
      • Username: dellsupport
      • Password: dellsupport
    • An administrator can change the default password within the product’s virtual appliance menu.
  2. Type sudo passwd [USERID] and then press Enter.

    Note: Replace [USERID] with one of the three user accounts for Dell Security Management Server Virtual:
    • delluser
    • dellsupport
    • dellconsole
  3. Populate the new password and then press Enter.

  4. Confirm the new password and then press Enter.
    Retyping a new password
  5. Type exit and then press Enter.
    Exiting
