The Dell AE515 and AE515M are soundbars that attach to certain Dell monitors. There are two variants of the AE515 soundbar:

  1. The Dell AE515 soundbar attaches to the bottom of certain Dell LCD monitors (Figure 1).

  2. The Dell AE515M soundbar attaches to the stand of certain Dell LCD monitors with an included bracket (Figure 2).

Connecting the Soundbar

AE515:
The following instructions can be used to install the soundbar on a Dell compatible monitor.

  1. Align the tabs on the soundbar to the slots on the monitor base.
     
  2. Slide the soundbar to the right to secure the soundbar onto the monitor base (Figure 3).

AE515M:
The following instructions can be used to install the soundbar on a Dell compatible monitor.

  1. Pull the bracket's clamp (Figure 4).
    Note: Use the thick rubber cushion between the bracket and the nonswivel base monitor stand.

  2. Secure the bracket to the monitor stand (Figure 5).

  3. Push the bracket down to align it with the stand base.
     
  4. Align the tabs on the soundbar with the slots on the bracket. Slide the soundbar to the right to secure the soundbar to the bracket (Figure 6).

Troubleshooting

The following can be used to troubleshoot various issues with the AE515 and AE515M soundbars.

Symptom What You May Experience Possible Solution
No Sound No sound from the external audio source.
  • Check if the audio line-in cable is inserted in the soundbar line-in port.
  • Disconnect the line-in cable from the line-in jack and insert the cable again.
  • Check if the audio source is turned on.
  • Ensure that the audio device volume is not set to 0%.
  • Try a known good speaker or audio source.
Abnormal Sound Distorted or buzzing sound.
  • Clear any obstructions between the soundbar and yourself.
  • Ensure that the line-in cable is inserted into the line-in port of the audio source.
  • Decrease the volume of the audio source.
  • Turn the volume level to a lower setting on the soundbar.
  • Test the soundbar using another audio source.
Unbalanced Sound Output Sound is coming from only one side of the soundbar.
  • Clear any obstructions between the soundbar and yourself.
  • Ensure that the line-in cable is inserted into the line-in port of the soundbar or audio source.
  • Set the Windows audio balance controls to the center.
  • Clean and reconnect all audio cables.
  • Test the soundbar using another audio source.
Low Volume Volume is too low.
  • Clear any obstructions between the soundbar and yourself.
  • Turn the volume to a higher level on the soundbar.
  • Set all Windows volume levels to their maximum.
  • Increase the volume of the audio source.
  • Test the soundbar using another audio source.
No Line-in Sound No sound using the line-in mode.
  • Ensure that the line-in cable is properly connected to the soundbar line-in port and to the line-out port of the audio source.
  • Try a known good line-in cable.
  • Check if the audio source is turned on.
  • Ensure that the audio source volume is not set to 0%.
  • Try a known good speaker or audio source.
Line-in Distortion Line-in cable is not properly plugged in.
  • Clear any obstructions between the soundbar and the user.
  • Ensure that the lin-in cable is inserted into the line-out port of the audio source.
  • Decrease the volume of the audio source.
  • Turn the volume level to a lower setting on the soundbar.
  • Clean and reseat the audio cables.
  • Ensure that no loose objects are touching the soundbar.
Headphone Jack is Connected, but No Sound is Heard System audio is playing.
  • Ensure that the computer audio source volume is not set to 0%.
  • Increase the volume of the soundbar.
  • Press the default playback function button on the soundbar.
Headphone Abnormal Sound Audio distortion.
  • Check if the headphone plug is properly inserted into the soundbar headphone port.
  • Check if the headphone plug has an intermittent connection.
  • Check if the audio source is distorted when playing without the headphone. Test a known good headphone.
