Note: This article is a guide to those parts of this particular computer that Dell believes anyone can remove and replace. Dell Technologies recommends that a repair engineer replaces all other parts. As this is a 2-in-1 computer, there are not many parts that are considered safe for you to remove. There are instructions in your manual on removing parts that are not covered here.

2. Removal Instructions

Recommended tools

1 Small Phillips head screwdriver 2 Plastic scribe
3 Small flat-head screwdriver    
 
Note: Using a large Phillips or flat-head screwdriver may result in damage to the head of the screws. This would make their removal impossible without specialty tools that are not available to our onsite engineers.

 

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the main access panel:

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

  2. Turn the computer over on its lid and remove the nine screws that secure the cover to the base.

  1. Using a plastic scribe pry up the cover at the rear edge of the computer [1] and lift it away from the base [2].

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the battery:

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

    4. Remove the Bottom Access Panel.

  2. With the computer closed and sitting on its lid, disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard [1].

  3. Remove the four securing screws from each corner of the battery [2].

Removing the battery

  1. Lift the battery up and out of the computer [3].

 

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the hard drive:

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

    4. Remove the Bottom Access Panel and Battery.

  2. With the system on its lid, disconnect the hard drive cable from the motherboard [1]. Remove the adhesive tape that secures the cable to the motherboard.

Removing the hard drive

  1. Remove the two screws that secure the hard drive to the system [2].

  2. Take the drive out of the computer [3].
