Flashing the two Reds and seven Blues No POST error after disabling the UEFI CA BIOS setting

 

You may experience a black screen on your Alienware or G-Series gaming laptop. This error only occurs after changes in your BIOS. The laptop gives the following flashing start-up error on the next boot:

The Light Emitting Diodes (LED)s flash code group is two RED, and then seven BLUE flashes that repeat. That flash code advises the following error is seen:

SBIOS Message - Display Failure

The engineering team confirms that this happens after the following changes to the BIOS:

  1. You enter the BIOS setup screens using the F2 shortcut during start-up.

  2. Go to the BIOS UEFI CA setting and disable it.

  3. Confirm that the hybrid graphics or advanced Optimus mode is turned from ON to OFF. (This step is only for laptops with a discrete graphics card installed.)

  4. The Secure Boot setting is Enabled.

  5. Save your changes and Exit.

  6. Your laptop restarts and gives the No POST error.

Causa

There are many reasons why you may change your BIOS. However, after turning your laptop on with all the following BIOS settings changes in place the laptop cannot load the Video BIOS authentication key:

  • The UEFI CA BIOS is set to Disabled.
  • The Hybrid or Advanced mode is set to Disabled. (This only matters if a discrete video card is installed in the laptop.)
  • The Secure Boot is set to Enabled.

Resolución

These steps take you through how to recover your laptop from this error:

  1. Connect your AC Adapter to the laptop. Press and hold the power button down for 25 seconds. (You must reset the Real-Time-Clock (RTC).)

  2. When the laptop restarts, use the F2 key shortcut to boot into the BIOS setup screens.

  3. Go to the Boot Configuration screen and enable the Microsoft UEFI CA option.

  4. Save the changes and Exit.

  5. Confirm that your laptop boots to the operating system.
