Instrucciones

This article explains how to use a remote update method using the iDRAC web interface of Dell PowerEdge servers and other products with an iDRAC.
 
Note: Other update methods are available in article PowerEdge: Updating Firmware and Drivers

You can find the firmware file needed by entering your service tag into the Dell Support page. Below is the page that you would see (valid as of June 21, 2024). The example here is a PowerEdge R640 server with iDRAC9 firmware to be updated.
 
Note: All files used to update firmware (except for some older model hard drive firmware versions) should be DUP files based on Windows 64 bit.

The instructions differ depending whether an iDRAC9 or iDRAC8 or iDRAC7 are used. Click on the appropriate iDRAC model for more information.

Before updating the firmware using a single component update method, ensure that you have downloaded the firmware image to a location on your local system. The file name for the single component Dell Update Package (DUP) should not have a blank space.

Process:
  1. Log in to the iDRAC9 web interface.
  2. Go to Maintenance, then click System Update. The Manual Update page is displayed.
  3. From the Manual Update tab, select Local as the Location Type
  4. Click Choose File, select the firmware image file for the required component, and then click Upload.
  5. After the upload is complete, the Update Details section displays each firmware file that is uploaded to iDRAC and its status. If the firmware image file is valid and was successfully uploaded, the Contents column displays a (+) icon next to the firmware image filename. Expand the name to view the Device Name, Current, and Available firmware version information.
  6. Select the required firmware file, and do one of the following:
    • For firmware images that do not require a host system reboot, click Install. For example, this could be an iDRAC firmware file.
    • For firmware images that require a host system reboot, click Install and Reboot or Install Next Reboot.
    • To cancel the firmware update, click Cancel.
    When you click Install, Install and Reboot, or Install Next Reboot, the message Updating Job Queue is displayed.
  7. To display the Job Queue page, click Job Queue. Use this page to view and manage your pending firmware updates. You can click OK to refresh the current page to view the status of the firmware update.

iDRAC8 or iDRAC7

Before updating the firmware using the single component update method, ensure that you have downloaded the firmware image to a location on the local system.

Process: 
  1. Log in to the iDRAC8 or iDRAC7.
  2. Go to Overview, then click iDRAC Settings, and then click Update and Rollback. The Firmware Update page is displayed.
  3. From the Update tab, select Local as the File Location.
  4. Click Browse, select the firmware image file for the required component, and then click Upload.
  5. After the upload is complete, the Update Details section displays each firmware file that is uploaded to iDRAC and its status. If the firmware image file is valid and was successfully uploaded, the Contents column displays a (+) icon next to the firmware image filename. Expand the name to view the Device Name, Current, and Available firmware version information.
  6. Select the required firmware file and do one of the following:
    • For firmware images that do not require a host system reboot, click Install. For example, this could be an iDRAC firmware file.
    • For firmware images that require a host system reboot, click Install and Reboot or Install Next Reboot.
    • To cancel the firmware update, click Cancel.
    When you click Install, Install and Reboot, or Install Next Reboot, the message Updating Job Queue is displayed.
  7. Click Job Queue to display the Job Queue page, where you can view and manage your pending firmware updates. You can also click OK to refresh the current page and view the status of the firmware update.
