Steps to configure multi-vLAN network

  1. Register the vCenter server on which the PPDM VM is deployed.

  1. Configure physical Switch ports that connect to ESXi Servers to trunk mode. This setting allows the ports to pass multiple vLAN traffic.

  1. In vCenter UI, enable Virtual Guest Tagging (VGT) or Virtual Switch Tagging (VST) mode on VMware ESXi vSwitch port group for PPDM. You can use a standard port group or a distributed port group.
  • VGT: For port groups on standard virtual switches, configure the virtual switch port for vLAN ID 4095, which makes all vLANs accessible. For port groups on distributed virtual switches, use vLAN trunking, which supports specifying multiple vLANs by ID or range. For more information, see the VMware ESXi documentation.
  • VST: You can also configure the port group with a vLAN ID from 1-4094
NOTE: Learn more about standard vSwitch tagging methods by visiting VMware Support.

  1. In Data Domain Web UI, Configure NIC vLAN IPs for the DD. The DD documentation provides more information. Select Hardware > Ethernet, select the Physical NIC, and click Create. Select vLAN to add vLAN configuration.

  1. In PPDM Web UI, add the DD as protection storage. Select Infrastructure > Storage, click Add under Protection Storage tab to add primary and replication Data Domains.

  1. In PPDM Web UI, add virtual networks, include creating a pool of static IP addresses. These names are not required to match to the ones in the previous step. However, it is recommended that you use the same network name in both locations for each virtual network.
