Before and when this event occurs, we see periodic alerts regarding 'Virtual Machine CPU Usage' on the VxRail Manager Virtual Machine (VM).
SSH to VxRail Manager and run the top command.

sy.
The
us means User CPU time.
The
sy means System CPU time.
In this scenario, we see that the sy continues to jump above 90% and the
us is staying under 20%.
The cpu and the memory are not configured to the expected standards for the VxRail Manager VM.
This causes the VxRail Manager VM processes to use most of the memory and cpu.
This does not allow the user processes to complete the extraction of the bundle.
To resolve this issue, change the VM configuration:
There are two options to shut down the VxRail Manager.
1. From an SSH session:
shutdown -P
2. In the vSphere Client, right-click the VxRail Manager VM, then click
Power, then click
Shut Down guest OS.
- Once the VM has shutdown, click EDIT in the VM Hardware section.
- Within the Hardware Settings screen, change the CPU to 6 and the Memory to 16 GB.
- Click OK and power on the VM.
- Retry the upgrade.
