MOK Message When Booting Linux with Secure Boot Enabled

Summary: Learn what to do if a machine owner key (MOK) message appears during boot on a Dell computer that is running Linux with secure boot enabled.

Symptoms

A MOK message appears, asking to press any key to continue upon boot.

Cause

Secure boot requires MOK with Linux computers.

Resolution

The MOK message during boot can be disabled by going to Enroll MOK or by choosing to Disable Secure Boot from the Dell BIOS. Follow the appropriate method for more information.

Enroll MOK

  1. When the MOK message appears, press any key to Perform MOK management.
  2. Select Enroll MOK and then press Enter.

  1. Select Continue and then press Enter.

Note: Optionally, you can select View key. The key is alphanumerical.
  1. When prompted to enroll the keys, select Yes and then press Enter.

  1. Select Reboot and then press Enter.

Disable Secure Boot from the Dell BIOS

Disabling Secure Boot causes MOK messages to stop appearing on boot. For specific information about how to disable Secure Boot in your Dell computer’s BIOS, go to Dell Support Manuals. Identify your product, then locate the Owner’s Manual for information about your BIOS settings.
