This article applies to   This article does not apply to

Symptoms

Owners of a AW3821DW Alienware monitor may experience the screen flickering whenever it is connected to any Alienware computer, Mac Book Pro, or Mac Mini.

Cause

The issue may persist after a factory reset and swapping out the cables and ports in use.

Resolution

  • Identify if your computer runs the Windows or Apple operating system:

    • For Windows computers, select the highest refresh rate available:

      • Use DisplayPort (DP) instead of HDMI.

        • For an HDMI connection, it can increase the refresh rate from 60 Hz to 85 Hz only.

        • For a DisplayPort connection, it can increase from 60 Hz to 85 Hz, 100 Hz, 120 Hz, or 144 Hz.

    • For Apple computers, select the highest refresh rate available:

      • The refresh rate is greater than or equal to 60 Hz.

Note: Alienware monitors with G-Sync may not work when a USB type-C to a DP or HDMI adapter or Dock is connected. Do not use a USB type-C to a DP or HDMI adapter or Dock. Connect the DP or HDMI cable directly from the computer to the monitor.
