Before you begin

Review the following manuals before upgrading your PowerStore cluster (all available from the PowerStore Documentation page at: https://www.dell.com/powerstoredocs):
  • PowerStore Software Upgrade Guide
  • PowerStore Release Notes
    • For details about the upgrade to this version, see the Installation and Upgrade Considerations section of the PowerStore Release Notes.
  • VMware Licensing and Support for PowerStore X table
    • To view a list of compatible PowerStoreOS and ESXi/vCenter versions for PowerStore X model appliances.
 

Obtaining the PowerStoreOS upgrade packages

Note: Starting with PowerStoreOS version 3, the upgrade files can be automatically downloaded by enabling the Automatic download option under the Upgrades section of the PowerStore Manager user interface (SupportAssist required).

All files are available from the dell support pages.
  1. Log in to https://www.dell.com/support with your user account.
  2. Enter your service tag or model.
  3. Go to the Drivers and Downloads section and download the respective package.
 

Upgrading PowerStore T model clusters

To upgrade your PowerStore T model cluster:
  1.  Download the PowerStore T software upgrade .bin file corresponding to the needed PowerStoreOS version. Example: PowerStoreT-2.1.1.1-1690550-retail.tgz.bin.
  2. Perform the steps in the Upgrading PowerStore T model clusters section of the PowerStore Software Upgrade Guide.
 

Upgrading PowerStore X model clusters

Important: When upgrading a PowerStore X model appliance, use only Dell qualified software.

To upgrade your PowerStore X model cluster:
  1. Download the PowerStore X software upgrade .zip file corresponding to the needed PowerStoreOS version. Example: PowerStoreX-2.1.1.1-1690550.zip.
  2. Extract the .zip file. See the PowerStore X Model appliance section of the PowerStoreOS release notes for the contents of the PowerStore X software upgrade .zip file.
  3. Perform the steps in the Upgrading PowerStore X model clusters section of the PowerStore Software Upgrade Guide to upgrade your PowerStore X model appliance.
