NetWorker: daemon log posts nsrd message - Detected orphaned save set records on volume

Symptoms

When encountering a save set media record with nothing present on the media database the daemon.raw logs:     
nsrd NSR info Media Waiting: Detected <#> orphaned save set records on volume '<Vol_name>'.  This occurs when data in the media database does not have a corresponding file on the volume.  Investigation is strongly recommended.

Cause

These messages are posted when the NetWorker Media Database has a save set when the media (usually a disk device like Data Domain or AFTD) does not have the corresponding save set.

Resolution

These orphan save set messages are informational to indicate a disparity between metadata and the media on storage.
  1. Identify the orphan save set from media database run below command:  
mminfo -a -r "ssid,cloneid,ssflags,clflags" -q "ssrecycle,volume=<Vol_name>" 
To list the details of those orphaned save sets, use below command to list the details: 
mminfo -a -r "client,name(10),sscreate(22),ssretent,ssid,ssflags,level,clonetime(22),clretent,cloneid,clflags,copies,validcopies,ssinsert" -q "ssrecycle,volume=<Vol_name>" -xc, > orphaned.csv
  1. Delete the orphaned save sets from media database, specifying their ssid and cloneid:
