Riepilogo: controllare l'esecuzione di aggiornamenti provoca questo messaggio di errore: "Windows Update al momento non controlla aggiornamenti, poiché il servizio non è in esecuzione. Potrebbe essere necessario riavviare il computer." 
 

Soluzione:

1.    Andare a Strumenti di amministrazione/Servizi e interrompere il servizio Windows Update.
2.    Quindi passare alla cartella c: /Windows/SoftwareDistribution ed eliminare tutti i file e le cartelle.
3.    Per poi tornare a Servizi e riavviare il servizio Windows Update, che consente di ricreare tutte queste cartelle di nuovo.
4.    Quindi eseguire manualmente il servizio di aggiornamento e tutto dovrebbe funzionare.
