You may experience a situation where the LCD brightness is set to 0% out of the box on your Latitude 5400 / 5490 / 7200 2-in-1.
To resolve this issue, perform one of the options below.
Change the brightness levels using the keyboard.
- Press and hold the Fn key (located in the lower left-hand corner) and then press the F12 key (located across the top of the keyboard). You can repeatedly tap the F12 key to increase the brightness, or hold the key down..
Set the BIOS back to its defaults.
- Reboot the computer.
- When you see the Dell logo during POST, press the F2 key to enter the setup screen.
Note: When Windows boots up as normal, try again.
- On the System Setup screen, touch or click Load Defaults.
- Make sure BIOS Defaults is selected or confirm to load the defaults, and then click OK.
- On the first Warning window, touch or click OK.
- On the second Warning window, touch or click OK.
- The computer will restart.
Manually set the brightness level in the BIOS.
- Reboot the computer.
- When you see the Dell logo during POST, press the F2 key to enter the setup screen.
Note: When Windows boots up as normal, try again.
- On the System Setup screen, touch or click Video.
- Adjust the LCD Brightness levels as desired.
- Touch or click Apply, confirm the changes when asked.
- Touch or click Exit
- The computer will restart.
Download and install the latest BIOS.
Note: Please bookmark this article as a restart of your computer may be needed.
- Browse to the Dell Support SIte
- Using the drop down menu under Category, select BIOS.
- Touch or click Download to the right of the latest BIOS listed for your computer.
- Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved
- Double-click the BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
- Your computer may restart several times to complete the BIOS update process.
