This guide takes you step by step through the safe removal of the Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) parts of a Latitude 3510 Laptop. (CRUs are the parts of the laptop that should not need an engineer to remove or replace.) The guide includes pictures to reference what is involved.

Pre-Removal Instructions before removing the Access Panel:
During installation or removals of any hardware always ensure that all data is backed up properly
Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets
Turn the laptop over on its closed lid and loosen the eight (8) captive screws. The screws go around the edge of the panel and secure the access panel to the chassis.
Using a plastic scribe or some other tool that does not mark the plastics, pry the cover up from the right-hand side hinge. Then work clockwise around the access panel to release it from the chassis.
Lift the panel up and away from the chassis.

Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets
Remove the Access Panel and disconnect the battery cable
With the laptop placed on its closed lid, the memory is located in the top right-hand side corner of the system. Lift the cover away from the memory DIMM.
Pull apart the metal clips holding the DIMM in place.
When the DIMM lifts up at an angle to the base, pull it out of the socket and away from the laptop.
Pre-Removal Instructions before removing the Solid State Drive (SSD):
During installation or removals of any hardware always ensure that all data is backed up properly
Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets
Remove the Access Panel and disconnect the battery cable
With the laptop on its closed lid, the SSD is located in under the laptop fan on the left-hand side corner of the laptop.
For the M.2 2280 SSD:
Remove the single (1) screw that secures the M.2 2280 SSD to the chassis and the card springs up at an angle to the motherboard.
Maneuver the SSD card out of the SSD connector and away from the laptop.
For the M.2 2230 SSD:
Remove the single (1) screw that secures the M.2 2230 SSD to the chassis and the card springs up at an angle to the motherboard.
Maneuver the SSD card out of the SSD connector and away from the laptop.
Pre-Removal Instructions before removing the Laptop Fan:
During installation or removals of any hardware always ensure that all data is backed up properly
Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets
Remove the Access Panel and disconnect the battery cable
With the laptop on its closed lid, the fan is located in the top right-hand side corner of the laptop. Disconnect the I/O board cable from the motherboard and unroute it from around the fan assembly.
Remove the two (2) screws that secure the fan to the chassis.
Unroute the WLAN antenna cables from around the fan assembly.
Disconnect the fan cable from the motherboard and lift the fan assembly up and away from the chassis.
Pre-Removal Instructions before removing the Coin Cell Battery:
During installation or removals of any hardware always ensure that all data is backed up properly
Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets
Remove the Access Panel and disconnect the battery cable
With the laptop on its closed lid, the coin-cell battery is located to the left of the laptop fan. Disconnect the coin-cell battery cable from the motherboard.
Lift the coin-cell battery away from the adhesive on the motherboard.
Pre-Removal Instructions before removing the Micro-SD Memory Card:
During installation or removals of any hardware always ensure that all data is backed up properly
Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets
The Micro SD slot is located on the right-hand edge of the laptop. Push in gently on the card in the slot and release to have it pop out of the slot [1].
Grip the card and pull it the rest of the way out of the slot [2].

Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets
The Micro SIM slot is located on the right-hand edge of the system. Open the latch that covers the SIM card slot [1] and push a SIM card tool or a straightened paper clip gently into the hole on SIM card slot filler [2] until it pops out of the slot [3].
Remove the filler and remove the SIM card [4] and push the filler back into the laptop until it locks in place.
Pre-Removal Instructions before removing the WLAN Card (WiFi, Wireless):
During installation or removals of any hardware always ensure that all data is backed up properly
Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets
Remove the Access Panel and unplug the battery cable
With the laptop on it is closed lid, the WLAN card is located in the center of the laptop.
Remove the single (1) screw that secures the WLAN card bracket to the chassis.
Remove the bracket from on top of the antenna cables and the card appears at an angle from the motherboard.
Disconnect the antenna cables pop connectors from the press studs on the WLAN card.
Pull the card out of the connector on the motherboard and away from the laptop.
