How to Configure Windows 10 Touchpad Scrolling (Reverse Scrolling Fix)

How to configure Windows' default Touchpad scrolling functionality

(Scrolling up, moves the window down, and scrolling down, moves the window up.)

While this is a default Windows feature, it can be modified. If you have a Precision Touchpad, you can modify this setting using the suggestion here:

For those systems without a Precision Touchpad, the settings look like:

To modify this behavior, you must do the following (please be sure to follow the steps precisely):

Warning: Be advised that as this is a modification of the registry, you do pose the risk of irreversibly damaging your operating system.
  1. Launch Device Manager

  2. Expand the Mice and other pointing devices menu

  3. Right-click each mouse and go to Properties until you find Alps Virtual HID Device listed in its location like so:

  4. Once found, go to the Details Tab and set the Property dropdown to be: Device Instance Path

  5. Take note of the string of text listed for the Value

  6. Open Registry Editor

  7. Navigate to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\HID

  8. Expand the directory for the folder that matches the portion of the value from before, starting with the VID

  9. Expand the folder inside this directory, and it should now look like:

  10. Double-click on FlipFlopWheel

  11. Set the Value Data field to 1 and click on OK

  12. Restart the computer
